About Pooncarie
Pooncarie is a small town situated halfway between Wentworth and Menindee in the South-West of New South Wales, along the eastern side of the winding Darling River.
Pooncarie is a wonderful place to visit, where the folks are friendly and their are many options for accommodation, camping, food and beverages.
Pooncarie has a small general store that supplies fuel, groceries, hot food, beverages and ice, as well as a hotel with pub and accommodation and also has a café situated down by the Darling River.
Pooncarie has a caravan park with powered sites situated along side the Darling River that joins onto the golf course and nature reserve with driving, walking or cycling tracks that follows along the river where two bird hives are located for observing and taking photos of the local bird and wildlife, while being hidden from view. The caravan park also has a toilet / shower block with RV effluent waste disposal, as well as powered BBQ facilities under shelter with fresh water from a rainwater tank near by. This would have to be the cheapest caravan park in Australia to stay at 10 bucks a day.
Their are plenty of accessible areas along the river for recreational fishing and a safe boat ramp that is situated down by the caravan park for various boating activities.
Pooncarie also has a powered BBQ area situated on a lawned park for picnicking, group and family occasions, situated in town down from the town hall, which also has toilet and showering facilities.
Across the road from the general store is another lawned park that has a war memorial and a shelter with historical information about the town and is also where the Burke and Wills expedition had one of its camps situated down by the Darling River.
